Charity Auction Night - Saturday 16 March 2002

Please attend and support the night as the money we make on this night helps to off-set the cost of the remainder of the year's activities. Please bring along something to auction - the more items the better. Will be held at Gibralter Barracks, Northampton. You should have your Feb newsletter where there is a slip to fill out. Returns to be received by 9 March.

        Past and Present Officers Club

56th Anniversary of the Past & Present Officers Dinner - Fri 18 October 2002

Serving and ex serving officers are invited to attend the 56th Past and Present Officers' Dinner at 23 Pioneer Regiment, St David's Barracks, Graven Hill, Bicester, Oxon on Friday 18 October 2002. Dress: black tie, miniature medals and neck decorations. Timings: 7 for 8, to allow time for a meeting. Members are asked to send their cheques for £20 to St Georges Drive before Friday 4 October 2002. Members of 23 Pioneer Regiment should book through their PMS. This year we again plan to accommodate retired members in Barracks.

        39/93 Branch

Red Lion Hotel, Fareham Hampshire- 11-13 October 2002

The 39/93 Branch has arranged accommodation and breakfast for members at the Red Lion Hotel, Fareham, Hampshire, at £15 per person, per night, from 11 to 13 October 2002. At £10 each, day visitors will be welcomed to dinner on Saturday.

The Bear Hotel, Weekend 2-4 March

The 39/93 branch met on 2-4 March at Bear Hotel, Havent, Hampshire. Following Branch elections, Colonel Gerry Walker is President, Mr Cliff Mullaney is Vice President, Mr Ted Bates is Chairman, Major Bill Elliott is Honorary Treasurer and Mr Les Rowley is Secretary. Twenty members, partners and their guests from the RN & RM Worcester Branch had an excellent dinner. A raffle was held afterwards to which all gave generously.

        215 Company Reunion Lunch

16th Annual Lunch, Midland Hotel, Derby - Monday 15 April 2002

Members of 215 Company will hold a Reunion Lunch at the Midland Hotel, Derby on Monday 15 April 2002 at noon for 1pm; a three course lunch is £12. Please send your cheques payable to RPC Association to arrive at HQ before 8 April 2002.

16th Annual Lunch, Midland Hotel, Derby - Monday 9th April

Four only sat down for the 16th Annual Luncheon at the Midland Hotel, Derby on 9th April to commemorate 215 Company. If you were in 215 Company, do come to the next lunch.

Field of Remembrance Westminster Abbey - Thursday 7 November 2002

 

Cenotaph Parade and Service, Whitehall - Sunday 10 November 2002

The Field of Remembrance will open on Thursday 7 November at 1000 hours, and a short service will be broadcast at 1130 hours. Members attending the planting of crosses at the Corps Plot (No 134) are asked to arrive by 1100 hours. It would be prudent to bring a means of identification. The Field will be open from 9 to 5.30 until Saturday 16 November.

Join us and 10,000 over veterans at Whitehall for the Cenotaph Parade and Service on Sunday 10 November 2002. Please write to the HQ with your details, including telephone number if held, before 15 September 2002, so that we can apply for your ticket(s). JJB Stadium Marquee- Saturday 26 October 2002

After the tremendous success of the inaugural reunion the 8 Regiment 1st Anniversary Reunion will take place on Saturday 26th October 2002 at the JJB Stadium, Marquee in Wigan, Greater Manchester. All past or present serving members of 8 Regiment with their partners are invited to attend.

The evening will commence at 1930hrs and finish at 0130hrs; it will consist of a three-course meal followed by coffee or tea with individual mints, live entertainment and raffle. A photo opportunity in the Stadium will be available for those who wish to have their photo taken. There will be ample opportunity throughout the night to reminisce with old friends and meet new ones. The residence bar in the Quality Hotel will be open after the JJB for those wishing to continue into the night. Please find enclosed the programme of events, menu and a map showing locations of the Hotels and the JJB Stadium.

Rooms have provisionally been reserved at a reduced rate of £26.00 per person inclusive of full English breakfast at the Quality Hotel until 1 Oct 02. For single occupancy the Quality will offer rooms at the same price of £26.00 for the first 10 single occupancy reservations; thereafter a £7.00 supplement will be required. The Wheatlea Park Hotel is offering a double room inclusive of full English breakfast for £54.95 per couple. Single occupancy of a double room with breakfast is £48.95.

If you wish to attend then please contact the Hotels as soon as possible to make your reservation. Please try to book your accommodation in the order they are listed to ease transport arrangements. The Hotels are situated approximately 5 minutes from the JJB Stadium.

Return transport will be provided from the hotels to the JJB Stadium. It is requested that Gentlemen wear blazer, collar and tie or lounge suit. Ladies in appropriate attire. To reserve your place at the reunion please book and pay for your hotel accommodation direct and return the attached proforma along with a cheque for £26.00 per person made payable to Club 8 Scorpion for the event. Attendance is limited to a maximum of 300 people; therefore you are advised to send your return as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Duke of Yorks HQ Club, Chelsea - Saturday 18 May 2002

The London Lunch will be held at the Duke of York's HQ Club, King's Road, Chelsea on Saturday 18 May 2002 at 12 noon finishing at 4.30pm. The dress is lounge suit or jacket and tie. The lunch is for Association members with guests, wives and children too, if the latter are big enough. With ample parking space, the Club is three minutes walk from Sloane Square tube station, with few stairs to climb, one stop from Victoria. Because of building works the Club should be entered from Lower Sloane Street. With wine included, there will be a three course lunch and a separate bar. The cost is either ten or twenty pounds each. To encourage more to come, the Council has again agreed to subsidise members only who are either wholly retired or registered disabled or not in paid employment; the cost for one, non transferable ticket will be ten pounds. For all other members and their guests, the cost will be twenty pounds. Please do not send your money until you receive the next newsletters with a booking form.

Reunion - Saturday 30 June

On Saturday 30 June old comrades attended the Reunion at 23 Pioneer Regiment RLC, St David's Barracks, Bicester. The good manners and enthusiasm of the highly professional members of the Regiment were appreciated by all.
